Last year around this time we were in Anguilla shooting the amazing wedding of Ashley & Jamie. Although we had seen their photographer's work online (awesome stuff) we had never met them and were excited to work with them. The fabulous part? We totally clicked. Matt & Enna Grazier are super cool people and ultra talented photographers located in Boston. We became fast friends and will be working together again this year also in Anguilla! (A reunion!!) Because we had three cameras for Ashley & Jamie's wedding, we were able to shoot some behind the scenes footage of them at work during the "trash the dress" session and were able to create this promo:

Happy Thursday! I would love to introduce Sophia, our guest blogger today. Sophia and Denby's wedding celebration was filled with tons of friends, family, and culture. Their pink color scheme was incorporated throughout the entire wedding; evident in Sophia's second dress change!

------------------------------------------------------------------

My husband Denby and I met back in 2000 in college through mutual friends. A few months later, we ran into each other at a rave and spent the entire night talking because we were just glad there was a familiar face. A few months after that, we started to spend more time together at school and outside of it as well. We slowly fell in love and spent nearly every waking moment together. If one was working, the other would go there and hang out. After 7 years, Denby was going to propose on a cruise that we planned to take with my cousin and her husband, but since my mom sort of ruined the surprise, he had to change his plans. He got me off work early the night before the cruise and took me to dinner. After dinner he said he was taking me to look at a really nice house in Pasadena but actually took me to the Langham Hotel. He proposed on their famous Picture Bridge and after saying yes, he took me to our room, where he decorated the room with rose petals and candles. There was a bubble bath waiting for me, along with sparkling wine and fresh cut strawberries.

After Denby and I got engaged and decided to take our engagement photos in Taiwan, we started to worry about all the other stuff that needed to be done: flowers, music, attire, etc. Our first priority was to find a coordinator and luckily I came across Carolyn Chen from The Special Day. After meeting with her, we decided to book her even without meeting with other coordinators. It helped a lot that she spoke Chinese because our parents do not speak a lot of English. Carolyn helped us choose most of vendors because she has worked with them before and trusted their work. Planning came easy after that because Carolyn was able to tie up all our loose ends into a pretty bow. I have always loved pink and Japanese Cherry Blossom flowers so this was the perfect time to bring all of that together.

Since Carolyn had worked with Elysium Productions before, it was easy for us to understand how important it was to have the best of the best for everything in our wedding. We saw a video for the Arthouse Edit and loved it. We loved how it looked like a movie, instead what we’ve seen in the past, which was hours of unedited footage with all the background noise. We wanted our friends and family to experience something that they’ve never experienced before, and since we are one of the first to get married, it was easy to set the standard. Everything about our wedding was modern and fresh, and Elysium captured it in a way that will allow our friends, family and us to enjoy it for years to come.

Since I only had less than 4 hours of sleep in the 2 days before the wedding, wedding day was nearly a blur. In a way, we were glad that our final day has finally come so that we could sleep and not think of payment due dates, schedules, and anything wedding. Our eyes were open and seemed to comprehend everything but both of us were really sleeping under that, haha. We followed Carolyn's timeline even though we didn’t know it well. We didn’t get to eat most of our meal but that was expected. My favorite memory of the day was when I pulled Denby into the photo booth so we could take some pictures together. We went in there twice because I had 2 different dresses. It was the only part of our day where we had to ourselves with no one around, even if it was only minutes at a time. The wedding looked and felt better than I expected. Everything and everyone I loved were all in one area; the pink, the cherry blossoms, the friends, and the family, even the family who came from other countries. Like I said before, Carolyn pulled all the strings together and made it into a pretty bow. Everything ran smoothly and couldn’t have been more perfect.

Tips for future brides: Find out how much you can afford to put into the wedding. If parents are helping to pay for it, make sure you guys agree on who gets to make the decisions and whether or not whose money it belongs to will affect that decision or not. Choose your wedding party wisely. Just because she is your best friend, she may not be the most qualified because she may be unreliable, irresponsible, or just may not have the funds to help with events. Choose your guest list wisely as well. I’d like to say that everyone I invited to the wedding are going to be people that I will continue to keep in contact with, but that is not always the case. And lastly, don’t be afraid to ask for help. I didn’t want to burden anyone and by doing that, we hardly had any sleep the week of the wedding. We were bickering with each other because we were tired, irritated and frustrated.

-Sophia

Our guest blogger today is Ashley. Ashley and Jason came down to Southern California for their coastal destination wedding. Check out their special day, Ashley even had a special song written just for her from her dad- so sweet!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Jason and I had been together 8 years before we got married. We beat the odds and are high school sweethearts still in love. In March 2008, Jason and I had a vacation planned in Cabo San Lucas for our spring break. At that time we were both going to Santa Clara University and were about to graduate in June. The second night Jason took me to a hotel where there was a private cabana and dinner set up on the beat with torches surrounding us. After a wonderful dinner and a surprise gift to throw me off, we laid in the cabana talking and he asked me to marry him! I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful and meaningful proposal.

Once we got back home, I started looking into venues right away. We both knew that we wanted to have the wedding down in Southern California and somewhere overlooking the ocean. People always ask why we did it down there and it was simply because the weather is always beautiful and the locations with a ocean view are more plentiful than in the Bay Area. San Diego was our first choice, but there wasn't any location that fit exactly what we were looking for. I then started looking in Orange County and that is when I found the Montage Laguna Beach . I had never heard of it before, but we pretty much knew once we saw the wedding location at that hotel it was the location of our dreams.

Once we traveled to see the Montage and a couple of other locations we knew that it was the place where we would get married. We then went on to find Brooke Keegan formerly with Details Details to be our coordinator. She pretty much helped us find all of our other vendors after that. We trusted her opinion and taste so we only had to meet 1-2 vendors for each category before we chose one. I had been immersed in wedding magazines, websites, and MANY wedding shows like Platinum Weddings when we got engaged so I was able to take things we liked from multiple sources and put them together to create our dream wedding.

Our wedding was a 3 day event. Most of our guests arrived on Friday (the day before the wedding) for our cocktail reception which was held on one of the outside lawns at the Montage. This gave our guests a change to mingle and meet other guests and it also was Jason and I's time to greet our guests and chat with them before the big day. I guess the theme of our wedding would be modern/elegant. The ceremony had a simple structure with transparent blue and purple (wedding colors) draping and hanging crystals. The ballroom had draping all around it with LED lights that could change colors. One third of the ballroom was the lounge with our dj, ice luge, and water bar which was revealed after the father daughter dance. I ordered bulk flip flops to put in baskets which were labeled "dancing shoes" so our guests (mostly women) could get out of their uncomfortable shoes and dance the night away in some comfy sandals. Sunday we had a farewell brunch out on the main lawn at the Montage to say goodbye and thank you to our guests for coming.

The wedding day was perfect. I thought I would be nervous, but I was so calm throughout the day. I guess I had been waiting for it so long that I was just happy we finally made it. The most important moment of the day was when we said our vows to each other. We both wrote our own vows which made it so incredibly meaningful. Many of our guests told us afterwards that that they had never been to a wedding where they felt so much happiness and true love. Another memorable moment was the father daughter dance because my dad wrote a song for the dance and had it produced by one of his friends who is a singer. We danced to that song while a slideshow of the both of us was playing; there wasn't a dry eye in the entire place.

For us, we didn't even think about not having a professional filmmaker to document our wedding. We also didn't have to think twice about choosing Elysium Productions. Not only did my coordinator, the hotel, and every other vendor recommend them but they were doing all of the beautiful weddings that I had seen from different websites. One look at their videos and we were sold. When we got our wedding video back we could not asked for a better video compilation of our wedding. As we showed it to our friends and family, people were amazed and said that they felt as if they were watching a tv show. To quote my dad "this is the best movie I have ever seen". haha.

My Tips:

1. If you have the opportunity to have some kind of welcome reception the day before the wedding you should do it. Not only do your guests get to mingle and meet new people, but you get your thank yous and chit chat done with the night before so you don't have to worry about doing it the night of your wedding. We were able to enjoy our wedding day to the fullest and soak in every moment of it without worrying if we said hello to so and so.

2. The one thing I would tell all couples to consider (mostly for destination weddings) is a guest welcome bag. We had one waiting for each of our guests (1 per family) at the hotel they were staying at. In it I put an itinerary of all the events, times and locations as well as things to do in the area and restaurants that we recommended and some snacks as well. I had so many people come up to me and said it was so thoughtful and it meant so much that I had taken the time to make everyone feel special and welcome.

3. Don't stress about the small stuff on the day of your wedding. It won't matter in the long run and you won't want to regret being able to just take it all in.

-Ashley

Today I'm in the studio working on our new demo (which is WAYYYYY overdue) and I came across this clip while looking through about three year's worth of footage. It just reminded me that THIS is why we do what we do. Yes, playing with all the really cool gear and being artistic is fun, but what is most rewarding is capturing moments that will be treasured forever by our couples. It's not just about the pretty shots... it's about the people and the moments they create. This is from a wedding a few years ago and even though it's a 4:3 Standard Def clip, you'll see why it is so priceless...

Today's guest blogger is Christine. Take a peek inside Christine and Jimmy's seaside celebration.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Jimmy and I met when we went out partying with a group of mutual friends. We were both a little shy, but after a little alcohol in the stomach, we starting talking. As we got to know each other and hangout more and more, we found out that we were really similar and we clicked really well. We were really attracted to each other’s qualities, and we fell in love. Soon we realized that we'd found the soul mate that we had been looking for.

Jimmy planned the proposal for a while and I was oblivious of it. He knew I've never been to Hawaii, so he took me to Oahu and Maui for a week for my birthday. On the afternoon of my birthday, he took me to a spa, and then we went to the beach as the sun was setting over the horizon. He brought out a birthday cake, and sang happy birthday to me, then asked me to close my eye and make a wish. When I open my eyes, Jimmy was in front of me on his knee holding up a shiny ring box with a glittering diamond ring inside. It was the best birthday present I could ever wish for!

We did a lot of research for our wedding, from going online, to reading bridal magazines, to visiting venues and vendors. We think that you should definitely give yourself plenty of time to plan for your wedding, because visiting a lot of different vendors takes a lot of time, and finding the right venue is one of the first things you should do. We decided to have the wedding at Trump National Golf Course because we both love their ocean/golf course view and their menu selection. At the end our efforts were all worth it, the wedding was beautiful. We were really happy with the way our wedding turned out, and all the guests seemed to have enjoyed it just as much as we did. Thanks honey for giving me the wedding of my dreams!

We're so glad that we hired Elysium Productions to document our wedding. Their team is very professional, and they knew exactly what to film. They were able to capture all the details on the wedding, from getting ready, to ceremony, to cocktail hour, to reception. We're able to relive the sweet memories and catch up on some moments that we missed through Elysium's DVD. We couldn't be happier with Elysium Productions' work.

Today's guest blogger is Megan. Megan and David's wedding was a blast. Their reception was filled with surprises all night long- you'll just have to watch to see how incredible it was.

------------------------------------------------------------------

David and I both went to USC and even had similar friends. However, it took us 7 years after I graduated and match.com to bring us together! It must have been the USC football references that put our matches together. David is self-employed and put his business degree to use! He owns 3 businesses. He manufactures car care products. I have my Doctorate in Occupational Therapy and work for children with special needs. We were together for a year and a half before we were married and my proposal was perfect! One of my favorite movies is “Say Anything.” Lloyd Dobbler is the male lead in the film and has melted many a girl’s heart. In the most famous scene from the film, Lloyd stands beneath his girlfriend’s window wearing his trench coat and holding up a boom box blaring "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. I lived on the 10th floor of a building and on the big day, a girlfriend called and told me to look outside my window. David was in front of my building standing in a trench coat, holding up a boom box that was playing the song. My entire building opened their windows to see what the commotion was all about. He nervously dropped to one knee. He popped the question and of course I said Yes!

Wedding planning started the very night I got proposed. Ok, I didn’t go crazy right away but we did go back to the store for more champagne and I picked up my first bridal magazine. From there every time I went into a store I didn’t leave without a magazine. I even had David getting them for me when he went into the store! (He’d kill me if he knew I said that.) I first pulled out pictures of things I liked. Colors, outfits, anything that I liked and tried to find out if there was a theme or certain commonality I was drawn to. I took all of these pictures and separated them into categories. I also cut pictures of things I didn’t like out so I could describe to vendors why I didn’t like them and show them a visualization. The magic happened when I met my wedding coordinator. I pulled out my loose pile of pictures and she put them together into a vision. The creative juices were flowing and she just took them and pulled it all together in a classy, elegant, and jaw dropping event. I found my vendors from my wedding coordinator. A terrific coordinator will not just give you a list of vendors, they will find out what you’re looking for and guide you to 2 or 3 vendors to interview. They did half of the leg work for us!

The day was perfect! Who knows if it was flawless, the day of I was actually able to let go and not worry about if anything was going array. I think the champagne helped ☺ The wedding coordinator was invaluable here as well. There was a complete timeline drafted and 4 people to make sure it happened. No one in the wedding party or family had to worry about anything. We had someone telling us where to be and what to be doing. I got to sneak a peek at the ballroom in the morning and I think that got me even more excited. We could also see the guests arriving from our suite so that was fun as well. Put your 5 best friends, your mom and a few bottles of champagne in a room while you’re getting pampered and you’re going to have a blast! Starting the day out right was the key. I just soared on cloud 9 for the rest of the day. When you’re that happy and don’t let little things bother you, you will have a wonderful time. Why sweat the small stuff you can’t change anyway? What’s done is done so make sure you enjoy yourself and the time with your new husband, friends and family.

I couldn’t have been happier that I hired a wedding event filmmaker. Talking about wow factor, the same day edit is where it’s at! For the cost, you can not beat the shock value your guests will get. I tried to tell a few people about it before but I guess they thought it was going to be cheesy or they didn’t understand. I can’t believe what they can do in that short time period. Seriously, leave money in your budget for the same day edit. It puts your wedding over the top! People couldn’t stop talking about it. It was also neat that the guests got to see themselves at the wedding. If you look at the Same Day Edit it captured me literally floating onto the dance floor. The videographers captured so many emotions, yes emotions that you will want to remember. We just received our full length video. Now, I know it seems kind of silly when you read “you will get 5 leather bound copies…” wow. The presentation was amazing. Not only are they in beautiful cases but they put artwork on the DVD and the beginning page with the options to select chapters etc. was expertly done. We have had viewing parties to watch the DVD and every time we watch it we catch something new. The wedding wasn’t that long ago and it was scary to see how much we had forgotten even after planning for a year! Definitely worth every penny. I highly highly recommend! Just watch other people’s videos and you will want the same thing.

Advice for other brides:
Ever heard “don’t worry about the specifics and all the details, no one will remember them anyways”. DON’T LISTEN TO THOSE PEOPLE! I think what put my wedding over the top WAS all the details. Whatever you choose. I wanted crystals throughout for example. The flowers, rotunda, invitations, seating cards, etc. People were absolutely stunned and commented A LOT on all the little details of the wedding. People actually commented on specifics (other than the crystals) that I thought they wouldn’t notice. Like our initials on the sweets bag sticker. Do whatever you want to do and do it well! Be specific with what you want and go to blogs of wedding coordinators, photographers, and florists and cut and paste pictures that you like. Then let your wedding coordinator pull it all together. NEVER be pushy but definitely be opinionated and speak up for what you want, it’s your day. And regardless of what people say, it will last more than one day to you. So make the day count!

-Megan

Today I would like to introduce Yvonne as our guest blogger. Yvonne and John's coastal affair was filled with beautiful handmade details and lots of love from their closest friends and family.

------------------------------------------------------------------

My husband and I met at work. He pursued, I fell for him, and now, we've been blessed with one happy year of marriage together. He's an amazing man with wisdom & maturity well beyond his years and this funny gene that makes me laugh all the time. It was love at a time when it was least expected and a blessing and answer to my prayers. For our proposal, he had this elaborate scheme that included having my dog carry a rose in her mouth, with the engagement ring and a message attached of "Will you marry me?' when i walked through the door. Lets just say that my doggie did not cooperate and it turned into something more of a humorous spectacle. But nevertheless, I would not have changed a thing because it was perfect with the laughter and doggie confusion and ends up being a good story anyways :)

Wedding planning was overall a really fun experience. I think the hardest decision was finding the location, but was absolutely delighted with my venue. La Venta has coordinators {Sara} that helped make my day run smoothly. The site was beautiful overlooking the ocean and the food {one of my number of priorties} was deeelicious. Guests raved about the food and have said that it was one of the best wedding meals they ever had. {Exactly what I wanted!} Happy tummies = happy guests. I found all my venues/ideas via internet, weddingbee (looove this site!) and also venue site recommendations. I loved designing and making all of the little details of the wedding {menu cards, drink menus, kissing menus, runners, photo booth, and program}. It made it that much more personal. My best tool that helped keep me sane and peaceful was a detailed timeline that I created ahead of time that defined everyone's roles for the day, minute-by-minute schedule, as well as lists of what needed be brought to the site and back home. {yes, totally type A}

The wedding day was beautiful and flew by so quickly. My favorite memory - walking down the aisle with my father on my arm and seeing my {future} husband at the altar {tear drop}. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to have a professional videographer at the wedding since I knew that the day would fly by in a blink of an eye. It was important to me that I could re-live the raw emotion of the day, to hear the vows again, and to see things that I would have missed because I was off taking pictures..The video, paired with music, recreates the power and magic of the day in a different way that pictures cannot. (Don't get me wrong, I loved my photographer!) I am so glad that I set aside money for the video and of course Elysium did a wonderful job. I remember watching the video and being surprised and amazed that they were there to capture so many of the moments. It is something that I've watched again and again and love it every time...

Today I am happy to introduce our guest blogger Megan! The decor and florals of Megan and Kyle's wedding are absolutely stunning and the after party decor is equally as beautiful. This couple's love for one another is evident throughout the entire film!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyle and I met in college at the University of Colorado at Boulder and five years later he proposed in his hometown of Winter Park, Colorado on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride in the snow. After a year and half long engagement, we were married on June 20, 2009 at the breathtakingly beautiful Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, California. Growing up in Southern California, I'd always dreamed of getting married overlooking the ocean and The Resort at Pelican Hill was the perfect venue for us.

We were so excited to get married and wanted our wedding planning process to be as easy and stress-free as possible and it was exactly that, thanks to our AMAZING team of people helping us along the way. It all started with our wonderful wedding planner, Jeannie Savage, from Details, Details. She introduced us to our venue, all of our vendors and took care of every last detail for us. Along with Jeannie, we had the wonderful George Nickels, director of weddings at the Resort at Pelican Hill, and the fabulous Christopher Aldama of Fiori Fresco Special Events working with us. Together, the three of them worked diligently to ensure that our memorable event would be perfect and magical. Christopher Aldama created and designed our theme of “romantic and understated elegance”. He brought to life everything we had envisioned for our wedding, and more. Our team would not have been complete without our photographer, Victor Sizemore of Victor Sizemore Photography and our videographer, Elysium Productions. Documenting this momentous occasion was extremely important to Kyle and me. We knew that the day would go by so quickly and we wanted to make sure that we could capture every moment and be able to relive it for the many years to come. Victor Sizemore did an absolutely amazing job in capturing every moment beautifully and Elysium's Same Day Edit and video of our wedding were spectacular. Elysium's work took our breath away and truly encompassed our entire day and the feel of our wedding. Being able to watch all of those precious moments over and over again is absolutely priceless and we feel so lucky to have had such an amazing videographer document our wedding day for us.

Our wedding day seemed to be just as stress-free as the planning process proved to be. Everything went seamlessly and was absolutely perfect! We feel so blessed to have been able to really enjoy our big day and focus on each other and the wonderful family and friends around us, rather than stressing about the little details. If I could give any advice, it would be to really take the time to enjoy yourself and enjoy this special day of celebrating your relationship. I have so many “favorite” memories from the day but one that especially stands out was when we made our grand entrance at the reception and dancing our first dance as husband and wife. It was so wonderful walking into that beautifully decorated ballroom together and seeing all of our closest family and friends there to support us. We went right in to our first dance and it was an intimate and special moment that I will never forget. Our wedding was more than we could have ever dreamed of and we are so thankful for our family and all of the wonderful people that contributed to making it the best day of our lives!

Very excited to share Jessica Claire & Jeff Norwood's film. It was posted on Style Me Pretty today but if you haven't seen it, I wanted to post it here too. Jessica is a good friend and her only requirements for her wedding film were to "be creative and do whatever you want!" Oh - I LOVE when our couples say this to us!! So we shot entirely w/two 5D Mark II's, a couple monopods, a bit of glidecam, and another camera just to capture the audio from our wireless mic's. What resulted is one of my very favorite films we've ever produced.
